Repeat the process along the entire doorway until no portion of the carpet edge remains visible.

Part of the series. Mark and cut a piece of carpet tack strip. Loosen the carpet from its anchor whether a tack strip or metal cap. Place the carpet tack strip under the carpet about 1 2 inch from the transition point.

Measure the width of the doorway. As a rule of thumb make sure to install the tack strip for the carpet about 1 4 to 3 8 inches from the edge of the tile. Install tack strips around door frames but not across the threshold to prevent stepping on the sharp points. Press forward on the knee portion of the tool to stretch the carpet and use a putty knife to tuck the edge of the carpet into the tack strip down in the floor.

Install the transition. Position the strips with the tack points facing the wall. Flimsy wood tack strips yield easily to a sharp utility knife so you can replace pieces. Carpet to tile doorway transitions leave you with a couple of differen.

Cut the edge of the carpet so that it reaches the edge of the tile perfectly. Pull the carpet over the top using a knee kicker.
